Imposing Order

What is it about humans that they, more often than not, feel compelled to impose order on nature? I love this potager or kitchen garden plan (from "Using Herbs in the Landscape" by Debra Kirkpatrick) and I've used it as a template for my own garden. At the same time I also feel the need to let some little parts go 'wild', to let nature have her way and so I keep a print of this plan framed and hanging on the wall while I slowly come to terms with the fact that my garden will never really be like this.
